Hi. I recently acquired a collection with 16 stamps from Alsace and Lorraine, similar to your collection photo. Is there any type of published guide on these stamps. I’m trying to determine value.
Thank you. Pete
Hi Pete, welcome to DCStamps.
Although these stamps are quite “plain” in appearance, they are interesting in history. First of all, valuing stamps is all about condition and market. Therfore, I would recommend you find a local stamp dealer to take a look at them. It looks from your email you might live in Florida, so you might find one near you on the Florida Stamp Dealers Association website at: http://www.floridastampdealers.org/
If you are looking for a reference for approximate retail pricing, find a recent Scott’s Stamp catalogue (you would probably only be able to sell it for about 30-50% of the catalogue price). Check your local library. Also remember that these stamps have been reprinted, so if you look on my album page I describe how to tell the reprints from the genuine stamps.
Good Luck
Michael
